There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a martial arts school.
This page should help you better understand who we are at Texarkana BJJ. This will enable you to better understand if we might be a good fit for what you are looking for in a martial arts school because there is no one school that is right for everyone.
There are many different martial arts,
Why Train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Different martial arts have different focuses on techniques and approaches to training.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling focused art that uses many different techniques to control and subdue an opponent.
The art gained a huge amount of popularity in the US when Rorian Gracie started the UFC. He did this to prove what he already knew… that most martial artists and fighters were completely helpless in the grappling range.
Rorian’s brother, Royce Gracie, went on to dominate and win 3 out of the first 4 UFC’s. He did so, even though he was the lightest and youngest competitor in the events.
Royce took on opponents skilled in many different arts… karate, tae kwon do, boxing, kickboxing, shoot fighting, kung fu, judo, wrestling and more.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu evolved as a fighting art that was undefeated in Brazil for over 65 years. It is a phenomenal system of self defense and this is incredibly important. What Royce did in the early UFC to opponents that did not know Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the same thing that would happen today against any opponent that is also unaware of these techniques.
In today’s MMA and UFC competitions, virtually all fighters train Brazilian Jiu Jitsu because they realize how important it is to be able to be successful in Mixed Martial Arts.
BUT, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is more than a highly effective martial art.
An interesting thing happened over the years, many people (men, women, teens, and kids) began training in the art, but not simply for self defense – many trained because they wanted to get in better shape, compete in sport Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, or even MMA.
Even more incredibly, people began to train because of other benefits that they heard about from their friends and family… things like improved discipline, better focus, stress reduction, and the chance to dump some negative habits in exchange for other positive ones – like training!
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu does offer so many benefits to it’s practitioners and you are probably ready to start training, or at least start looking for the best school to train in Texarkana.
Selecting a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school is not just about prices or how many days a week someone could train. It’s not like going into a McDonald’s and seeing the same menu and getting the same food at every location… There are so many things to consider. I want to give you a few, so that you can select a school that’s best for you.
The Value Of Training With A Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt…
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s popularity has caused an unbelievable demand of learning the art by the public.
The art is incredibly complex and technical… because of this, it takes years to master even the basics and to ultimately become a black belt. This has led many less qualified people to begin teaching others.
You should always ask…
- Is there a qualified instructor teaching the art?
- What is their rank?
- Have they produced black belts in their art?
You wouldn’t walk into a Karate or a Tae Kwon Do School and see a beginner running the school and teaching the classes.
Why should Brazilian Jiu Jitsu be any different?
Coach Marc Hagebusch being promoted to 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt by Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti, head of the Alliance BJJ Team.
Coach Marc Hagebusch is a 3rd degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under the most successful coach in the history of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (Romero ‘Jacare’ Cavalcanti). Coach Marc (far right) with 2 of his black belts. Texarkana Jiu Jitsu often has 3 black belts on the mat helping all students reach their potential.
The only other black belts in East Texas (in fact within about 3 hours of Texarkana) are those that Coach Marc has promoted to black belt and training at Texarkana Jiu Jitsu, so not only is Texarkana Jiu Jitsu the only black belt academy in Texarkana, but Texarkana Jiu Jitsu also produces black belts.
If you want to one day achieve your black belt, then it’s important to train under a black belt AND one that has the experience of producing other black belts.
Coach Marc Hagebusch promoting his 5th Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, Billy Mullino… Congratulations Billy, A huge accomplishment!
